The Business Linkage Promotion Programme is an initiative of a partnership comprising the Government of Uganda, UNCTAD and UNDP to promote the creation of durable and mutually beneficial business linkages between local corporate companies and affiliates of trans-national corporations (TNCs) on one hand and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on the other.
Some of the linkages established
·National Water and Sewerage Corporation and World Bank.
They singed an M.O.U to support the Private Emptiers Association.
·Akright Projects Limited.
They signed an M.O.U to support suppliers of construction materials, landscapers, carpenters and metal fabricators.
·National Housing and Construction Corporation.
They renewed their support to suppliers of construction materials.
One of the acknowledged avenues that has been used in other developing countries to strengthen their economies is attraction of quality Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) that brings a full spectrum of benefits including up-grading of the indigenous small and medium scale enterprise (SME) sector.Therefore, to strengthen its SMEs and enable them to cope successfully with globalization and to benefit from increased flows of FDI, the Government of Uganda recognized the need to promote business linkages.
